Necon

In Memorium

The Northeastern Writers' Conferences mourns the passing of Michael McDowell, a Necon regular of the early days and a fine writer. Also, Joe Crawford, a Necon regular for 20 years and Art Show Chairman for the last ten, died in his sleep in early April, 2000. Joe was a true pioneer, co-authoring the FIRST bibliography of imaginative fiction in 1950 (the legendary 333).

Joe Crawford was a teacher at LaSalle Academy in Providence for 15 years, and at Ponagansett Middle School in Glocester for 3 years. He was a librarian at the Brigham Middle School in Providence for 12 years before he retired. He had also been a part-time teacher at Providence College. He was a graduate of Providence College. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, and a member of the Rhode Island Teachers Association.

Both Michael and Joe will be deeply missed.
